  1. Grora says:
The Stone Canyon Band started out as Tom Brumley, Allen Kemp, Pat Shanahan and Randy Meisner, but the line-up parted company with Nelson and changed their name to "Canyon". Nelson soon put together a new Stone Canyon band, and began to tour for the Garden Party album. This, and later versions, of the Stone Canyon Band included: Tim Cetera.
  2. Jurg says:
Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band recorded two excellent albums in /71 ("Rick Sings Nelson"/"Rudy the Fifth")that totally failed to connect with the majority of record buyers. So it probably surprised everybody when they came up with one of the biggest hits of with "Garden Party".

Oct 26,  · Off the album of the same name. I went to a garden party, reminisced with my old friends A chance to share old memories and play our songs again When I got to the garden party they all knew my name But no one recognized me I didn't look the same But it's all right now I learned my lesson well You see you can't please ev'ryone so.
  6. Brazahn says:
Rick Nelson's Garden Party rocks a lot harder than the title track would lead one to believe, and is also as much of a showcase for the Stone Canyon Band as it is for Nelson. Allen Kemp's lead guitar crunches and grinds its notes on the opening track, the edgy "Let It Bring You Along," before we hear the familiar, laid-back, country-rock strains of "Garden Party."7/
  7. Vumi says:
At the time "Garden Party" was released in , Rick Nelson had long been suffering from an identity crisis. He wanted to be rid of his former image as the wisecracking kid on the Ozzy & Harriet radio and TV shows and the Elvis-styled teen idol he had become.

  9. Daizuru says:
Say what you will about Rick Nelson, the album jacket for Garden Party is nothing short of stunning, with Rick looking more handsome than ever before in an embroidered velvet jacket, holding the neck of his rather heavy Les Paul Gibson in both hands. “Garden Party,” a song of redemption and peace wasn’t the first self reflective number Nelson ever recorded, there was the equally haunting.
