Said release initiated the mixing of the session with two sessions (from and ) originally on The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1. The first digital remastering dates back to , when the album was re-issued on vinyl and cassette, and kept the LP track listing.
Sep 18, · This LP shows Powell at his best, although I can’t see the advantage of remastering and offering this album on vinyl in addition to CD. The CD versions are fine, though be advised they have a completely different tracklist. The big advantage of CDs over vinyl has always been in the area of piano music, which is perfectly paced and accurate.
Volume 1 is anchored by three versions of Powell's "Un Poco Loco," featuring bassist Curly Russell and drummer Max Roach, that demonstrate the composition's evolution. Among the album's other outstanding tracks are quintet versions of "Wail" and "Bouncing with Bud" featuring tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins and the great but rarely recorded trumpeter Fats Navarro/5(40).

Editorial Reviews. This CD gives one a strong sampling of pianist Bud Powell at his best. Powell is heard on a classic session with trumpeter Fats Navarro and tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins (which is highlighted by exciting versions of "Dance of the Infidels," "52nd Street Theme," and "Bouncing With Bud") and in a trio for "Over the Rainbow" and his intense "Un Poco Loco."Price: $
